The fact threads on this forum are to determine what a panel of real experts would present before we went on and determined policy. With climate change we have it easy because the work of the IPCC, Stern, and Garnaut have done just that. The series of IPCC reports (with the next update coming soon) presents the scientific consensus - the world is warming, this is mainly due to human activity, and the consequences of not action are not good. The Stern report looked at the economics. It showed that not only is acting to prevent climate change economically feasible, but the economic cost of doing so is substantially cheaper than the economic cost of dealing with the consequences of climate change. The Garnaut report focussed on Australia - showing that Australia would be one of the worst effected continents by climate change, and that real action to prevent climate change made economic sense to Australia. This is the only place on this forum where the big picture view presented by these reports can be challenged. If you accept the big picture then you may prefer to skip this thread and jump straight to another fact, policy, or action thread in this section. All posts on this forum must be mindful and mindless posts will be deleted. Genuine questions are welcome (for the question to be genuine the moderators must have the feeling that the questioner has the potential to learn and to possibly change their view).
