From 1 February 2013, in a year where there will be a state election in Victoria, these are all the Voxpops (talking heads) or mentions of the State Victorian Greens:
5 Feb - Greg Barber very short voxpop - on Authorised officers restraining a 65 year old man with, the Ombudsman found, unnecessary force.
15 Feb - Mention - "The Green's tried twice to introduce a bill (to compensate firefighters for cancer which is worked related) but the coalition government rejected it yet."
22 Feb - Voxpop - Di Natale. Introduction was "The State Government has rejected a call from the Greens for it to declare a state of emergency in the Latrobe valley where a coal mine fire has been burning for two weeks". The Di Natalia voxpop.
28 Feb - "The Opposition and the Greens are calling for an enquiry" into the Morwell coal fire.
2 March - Di Natale VoxPop on Morwell coal mine owners making profit and saying that "with that profit comes a social responsibility".
5 March - "It is now clear that the Port of Melbourne will be up for sale whoever wins the state election" - No mention of the Greens in the story. (The AAP article included quotes from Greg Barber against the sale.)
12 March - Protesters forcibly removed from parliament when protesting against new law to forcibly remove protestors - Liberal MP VoxPop "We were hijacked pretty much by a stunt which was clearly coordinated by the Victorian Greens last night". Reporter: "The Green's leader, Greg Barber, says that's not the case". Barber VoxPop "That's false".
19 March - Greg Barber VoxPop in story about Government trialing kangaroo's shot in Victoria to be able to be used for pet meat. Green's fighting trial.
6 April - "The Greens in Victoria are hoping that the WA Senate result will buoy their prospects in the lead up to November's State election." and more" VoxPop from Greg Barber. A very pro-Green segment. But this doesn't make up for rarely mentioning the Greens when they are the main opposition to the views of the major parties.
8 May - Colleen Hartland, Greens MLC, VoxPop saying that Geoff Shaw, who is speaking about putting up a private members bill to restrict abortion, should put up the bill for debate as all he is doing now is attention seeking.
And yes, I really have watched every 7pm news since 6 April, and this is the first Vic. Greens since then - even though we have just had the Victorian Budget as well as many stories on transport (trains and roads) which have talked about the differences between the two major parties.
1 June - Voxpop and story with Ellen Sandell - Greens candidate for Melbourne - saying the party hope to emulate the success of Adam Bandt and win their first ever lower house seat in the state election. (The Greens now seem to do a little better on the weekend than during the week).
5 June - "The Greens have no weighed into the debate" (about how to handle Geoff Shaw). Voxpop of Greg Barber, saying Shaw is playing both sides. And the Greens are calling on Labor to not just move a no-confidence motion in the government, but also to block the budget to trigger an early election. Both sides say this is "irresponsible" (Labor) or "a nonsense" (Liberal).
Why Victorian Labor is going so soft on the Liberals is unknown and I've not heard it discussed. A friend suggested that the think they will win the election in November, but Labor want to pretend they are against the East-West tunnel - leave the Liberals in to sign the contract - and then keep the tunnel going ahead if they win - as they have already promised.
