29 April 2013 - Offshore processing of asylum seekers.
Excellent program for showing showing the problem ....
BUT what a perfect example of the media's rule that if Labor and Liberal agree then it is not political, and so not a single mention of the Greens.
They are allowed to criticise the government but only if they leave the viewing thinking 'How shocking. I wish Labor (or maybe Liberal) would do better.'
The Labor Immigration refused to appear on the show, so no comments from Labor as they wish. But I would like to know what the Liberals think - did they refuse to comment? And as on the whole we get what we vote for, so in a democracy the voters should be informed that their is a party who oppose offshore processing. I'm sure that the Greens didn't refuse to appear.
Perhaps this program will be mentioned on Q&A - but leaving the politics out of Four Corners is inexcusable as not everyone will continue on to Q&A.
Worth noting that there was a very similar bias shown in the opinion piece Escape to a fair deal? Not in this country! written by Daniel Flitton, a Senior Correspondent of The Age, on April 25. A Senior Correspondent that writes as if he had never heard of The Greens!
It is as if both The Age and the ABC have a government censor who acts to ensure that the political choice remains either Liberal or Labor.
Update on Tuesday 30, April: Almost all of the 52 comments on the Four Corners facebook page are against what Labor is doing. Not a single commentator mentions The Greens. The meme of 'If only Labor would do the right thing' has trickled down to the general public.
